About me
You are the only person to have had your experience, this is where our work together starts – I aim to create a safe, therapeutic relationship which enables you to explore whatever it is that has brought you to counselling.
I aim to work in the best way to support you – using gentle enquiry, reflection and focus on experience to help you connect with feelings in a supported way. I believe that the healing quality of human relationships is incredibly powerful and my intention is to create a safe and non-judgemental relationship in which you can explore everything that is going on for you, this might include the past or it may focus on the present, I will be guided by what is comfortable for you.
I incorporate aspects of polyvagal theory into my work, I find that an understanding of how our nervous system underpins our development and functioning can be transformational in our understanding of how we move through the world in the present day.
My practice is both in person and online (video). I work in person in Penryn (Mon & Wed), and Probus (Thu), I have online appointments most days but mainly on Tuesday. I prefer to work together on a weekly basis initially, as I have found this to be the best environment to create a solid therapeutic relationship but appreciate this isn't always an option.
If you are interested in working with me I offer a short, free, introductory call where we can explore if we’re a good fit, you can explain a little of what you’re looking to get out of counselling and I can explain something about how I would see us working together.
Training, qualifications & experience
Level 5 Diploma in Counselling including certificate in Online and Phone Therapy.
My training path took me through over three years of Level 2 Counselling Skills, Level 4 Certificate in Counselling and finally my Level 5 Diploma in Counselling which is a Gold standard course (accredited by the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapists).
I have undertaken further training in various areas since qualification, most significantly (for my work) in polyvagal theory - working with and understanding how our nervous system works, interracts with and impacts our daily lives.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
