About me
Something brought you here. Perhaps you have reached a point where something no longer feels manageable, or you have a sense that you want things to be different but aren't quite sure how.
You may be struggling with anxiety, low mood, relationships, confidence or a difficult period in your life. Or perhaps you have a deeper feeling of being stuck, of repeating patterns you don't fully understand, or of not quite feeling like yourself.
Psychodynamic counselling looks at both your present experience and the relationships and experiences that have shaped you. Sometimes things from earlier in our lives continue to influence how we see ourselves, how we relate to other people and how we respond to situations in the present, often without us being fully aware of it.
Together, we can begin to notice these patterns and understand what lies beneath them. I may gently draw your attention to something I notice, or explore what is happening between us in the counselling relationship, when this could help you understand yourself more deeply.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a BACP-accredited counsellor with a BSc (Hons) Psychology, Diploma in Counselling and Certificate in Education. Prior to becoming a counsellor I have worked as an adolescent early help practitioner within social services and as a college lecturer for over 18 years.
My practice is grounded in psychodynamic thinking, with a particular interest in attachment and the ways our earliest relationships can continue to shape our emotional lives.
Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Additional information
I offer an initial consultation of up to 90 minutes at a cost of £55. This gives us time to talk about what has brought you to counselling, what you would like support with and whether we feel we could work well together.
Ongoing sessions are £55 for 50 minutes. Counselling can be open-ended, allowing us to explore things more deeply over time, or we can agree a brief, focused piece of work around a particular difficulty or period in your life.
If you would like to find out a little more before arranging an appointment, I also offer a free 15-minute telephone conversation. This gives you the opportunity to ask any questions and gain a sense of whether counselling with me feels right for you.
Further information
I understand that beginning counselling can feel like a significant step. My aim is to offer a calm, confidential and non-judgemental space where you can feel safe enough to explore things honestly. Whatever has brought you here, you don't have to have it all worked out before you begin.
