About me

I provide counselling and psychotherapy for adults and young people (over 18) who are experiencing a variety of symptoms or a general unease that something is not right. I aim to support clients in an exploration of their thoughts, feelings and behaviour, past and present, to bring into awareness any patterns and outdated coping strategies that may be affecting their quality and flow of life.

People have very different views of what counselling and psychotherapy involves. For me, "talking therapy" is about healing and change; acknowledging one's own vulnerability and revealing one's strengths and resilience, all the time working towards a more autonomous way of life. I invite clients to inquire within and achieve a better understanding of themselves, in a non-judgemental and compassionate environment.

The therapeutic relationship is a key element to facilitating change. I use the here and now to explore how our relationship may be reflecting past patterns of thoughts, feelings and behaviour and to work compassionately with the unmet needs of the inner child. I aim to provide a space where the client feels held and safe enough to acknowledge their vulnerability, which is part of the healing process.

I also work creatively in that I invite the client (where appropriate) to express themselves through creative writing, such as poetry, the use of metaphor and journaling.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a diploma in Transactional Analysis Psychotherapy which is a humanistic approach, based on a theory of personality and communication.  The underlying philosophical assumptions are that everyone is worthy of dignity and respect, and has the capacity to take resonsibility for their own personal growth and change.

I have particular experience working with addiction, anxiety and depression, domestic abuse/violence and trauma and equally embrace the many other issues that people encounter as obstacles in their lives.  I invite clients to be open minded and kind to themselves, as starting therapy can be, for many, a daunting and unfamiliar experience.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
