About me
I’m Sara, a qualified Psychotherapeutic Counsellor. I offer one-to-one therapy for adults, both short and long-term, in central Edinburgh.
You might feel stuck, unhappy or in distress. You might have experienced something difficult, or you are not even sure what is wrong. Maybe you feel your problem is too small to bring it to therapy. I offer a safe space where we can work together to make sense of your experience.
Sessions will take the form of a conversation where we connect to feelings, explore your experience, thoughts and behaviours to enable you to understand yourself and your situation better. I aim to offer new perspectives, identify patterns and ask questions that encourage further reflection. Gaining greater awareness facilitates change and can help you to live your life more effectively and authentically. This can look like, for example shifting and moving forward with things, connecting to yourself and others on a deeper level, generally feeling more at peace, better.
It is a collaborative process, where we continuously reflect on what works for you, with the aim of finding your unique path to a more fulfilling life.
I'm an integrative practitioner, which allows me to tailor the process depending on your needs. I draw on a range of approaches such as transactional analysis, psychodynamic and person-centred models to provide the support you require in exploring the issues with which you’re having difficulties.
The foundation of the therapeutic work, however, is the relationship between the client and therapist. Finding the right therapist therefore is an important first step. I hope this introduction, and the details on my website, help you to see whether you think we can work together. I do also offer a brief introductory call online or on the phone where we can discuss what you are looking for.
Training, qualifications & experience
I completed a foundation year in Psychodynamic Counselling at the Westminster Pastoral Foundation in London, followed by a Diploma in Integrative Psychotherapeutic Counselling at the Northern Guild in Newcastle, which is accredited by both BACP and UKCP.
My practice is shaped by the experience of working and volunteering with a diverse range of clients in various therapeutic and educational settings for 15 years.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Brief introductory online video or phone call - Free
Once you have got in touch, I will offer a short (between 15–30 minutes) call online or on the phone to have a chat about what you are looking for. We can then arrange a time to have our first session.
During the first session, we meet and have an opportunity to further discuss what brought you to therapy. This is a chance for you to see where and how I work, and for both of us to get to know each other. If we both agree to work together, we will make arrangements to meet on a regular basis.
I offer some sessions at reduced rates for example for students and people on low income - please enquire for availability.
