About me

The biggest step is making contact with a counsellor, and it can seem extremely daunting and overwhelming…I have been in your shoes, and I know it’s not easy but doing so is the first stride to helping yourself.

How can counselling help?

There are many times in our lives when we feel overwhelmed with issues that impact us day to day and we often think we should 'just get on with' it and suffer in silence or put on a 'front' to others that means we are not being true to ourselves.  Or we think there is always something underlying that affects who we want to be, but we have never spoken about it to anyone because we feel ashamed.

If you feel like this, then talking therapy (counselling) is a way to help you to find ways to deal with your emotional pain.  I am a qualified integrative psychotherapeutic counsellor who offers both short-term and long-term therapy.  I am passionate about my work, helping people to make sense of what is happening to them. Whether that be to overcome previous trauma, conquer challenges they face currently, or move forward in their lives.

I can help by providing a warm, non-judgmental, confidential space in which you will feel safe to talk about your experiences.

It is important to me that our therapeutic relationship is built on trust, respect and care. It is not easy to open up to someone about your emotions and/or confusion you have, even if you think it is trivial. Rest assured I care and am here to listen to you and help you with your thoughts and feelings.

Cherish the pearl...Cherish your mind.

If you have ever asked yourself the following questions or you identify with the statements, then contact me for an initial chat:

  • I just want to hide under the bed covers.
  • Why can’t my child behave?
  • Why am I so worthless?
  • I’m just hopeless.
  • I don’t know who I am meant to be?
  • Why can’t I cope?
  • Everything is getting on top of me.
  • What is it about me that doesn’t fit?
  • Why does my child keep doing that?
  • I don’t want to see people.
  • Why am I just not good enough?
  • I get so stressed and anxious about life.
  • What is wrong with me?
  • I need to talk to somebody.

Cherish the pearl...Cherish your mind.

Initial contact

I offer a free informal, initial telephone consultation of up to 20 minutes whereby you can ask me any initial questions and we can explore what you would like to get from therapy and how we can work together.  We can also discuss whether you would like to work online (video platform), telephone or face to face.

What to expect in your first session?

After our initial telephone consultation, we can then arrange an assessment where we would meet ideally in person, otherwise via video platform (if that is your preferred method of working) and talk through in more detail your needs and goal for counselling.  My aim is always to make this session as simple and as comfortable as possible as well as alleviate any nerves you may be feeling.

After this assessment there is no obligation to continue with counselling.

If you do decide to go ahead, then we would book a regular time to meet initially on a weekly basis.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
