About me
I'm Sam, a fully qualified, UKCP-registered psychotherapist based in Bath, UK. I’ve been in private practice since 2018, working with a broad range of clients on issues including anxiety, trauma, depression, bereavement, and relationship difficulties.
Before training as a psychotherapist, I worked internationally as a photographer and writer, and held senior roles in brand development – experiences that deepened my capacity for creative thinking, relational awareness, and thoughtful communication, which continue to inform my practice.
I believe meaningful therapeutic work is grounded in a safe, collaborative space where trust and authentic connection can develop. Psychotherapy answers our natural, human need to be heard and understood at a deeper level. The experience of feeling truly met in this way can open a door to fresh perspectives, deeper self-knowledge, and meaningful, lasting change.
How I Work
I am trained in a broad range of therapeutic modalities, and draw on these in response to each individual’s needs. My intention is always to remain open to what is emerging in the session, rather than be led by theory or technique. At the core of my work is a relational, person-centred approach. I aim to build a collaborative and trusting therapeutic relationship, paying close attention to experience as it unfolds, and finding a way forward together.
In terms of understanding what shapes human experience, I am guided by the following, overlapping frameworks:
- Developmental – How early experiences shape our coping strategies, sense of self, and way of being in the world.
- Relational – The patterns and dynamics that emerge in our relationships with others.
- Existential – Questions of meaning, purpose, freedom, and our core hopes and fears.
- Somatic – Awareness of the body–mind connection, including how stress and trauma are held physically.
- Systemic – The social, cultural, and ecological contexts that shape our lives.

school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.
As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.
UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
