Qualified Counsellor MBACP

About me

I practise a person-centred approach and, with gentle curiosity and empathy, seek to work alongside each individual client, focusing on their unique situation.
I use a variety of methods and wide lived experience, supporting clients to examine the issues which are troubling them and which may be expressed through a range of emotions, causing anxiety, stress and depression.
My depth of experience means that I am neurodiverse-informed and neurodiverse-affirming.

Counselling sessions are your opportunity to bring any issue that you may wish to discuss, explore and think about. The session is a calm and safe time and space in the week where you may focus wholly on you and your issues.

To provide a safe and comfortable place for our sessions, confidentiality is extremely important. The only circumstances where information may need to be shared beyond a counselling session is the very rare occasions where there is a potential that a client is about to harm themselves or someone else.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a qualified counsellor and a registered member of the BACP.

I am the parent of a neurodiverse adult and was a carer from a young teenager onwards for my chronically ill parents for many years.

I have experience of counselling for carers of individuals with: dementia, long-term health conditions and a range of neurodiverse and related conditions (e.g. Autism, ADHD, Tourette's Syndrome and Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome).

I have provided 1-to-1 counselling for a user-led mental health charity for individuals with a wide range of mental health conditions.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

In cases of financial hardship, there is scope to explore a potential discount to fees and flexibility with the scheduling of sessions.

You can if easier for you pay up front for a number of sessions or set up a recurring payment. If you pay up front for 6 sessions there is a discount of 10%.

Cancellation is required 48 hours before a session; if not, the full payment will be required unless it was an unforeseen emergency situation.

The number of counselling sessions required is unique to each client. For some people their are various interconnected issues; for others, a very specific issue they want help with. Counselling may continue for a number of weeks or months or sometimes longer. Some clients, after working through their core challenges, may choose to continue to have counselling (perhaps not every week) as a part of an overall wellbeing programme.
