About me

Does life feel like its getting on top of you?
Could you benefit from a place to take some time-out?
... to explore your thoughts and feelings
... to get back on a front foot again

Hello and welcome, and thank you for visiting me on Counselling Directory.

My name is Richard Caldwell and I am a Registered Member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP)*

The world we live in can sometimes feel overwhelming and life can seem hectic with very little time to reflect on what is going on for you. Seeking counselling can also be a daunting and unfamiliar experience. With my knowledge and experience, I offer a friendly, simple and down to earth approach in a safe and confidential environment, therefore providing the platform and comfort to explore yourself and achieve your goals.

Why do we seek therapy?

- Anxiety levels high and frequent
- Experiences of low moods and depressed
- Feelings of low self-esteem and lacking confidence
- Difficulties experienced at work
- Overwhelmed by an historical trauma
- Constant negative thoughts

If you are feeling overwhelmed on a daily basis and unsure of which way to turn, please feel free to contact me on the relevant links above. All discussions will be in confidence.

My Story...

You may want to know a little about me. I am a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist and registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I practice from locations in the Liverpool Street and Shoreditch area of the City of London, Baker Street in Central London, and Ruislip in Middlesex. I am also a partner of City and West Therapy Ltd.

I come from an earlier career in the travel industry which has given me a significant insight in to different cultures and religion, and has allowed me to gain a broad experience of life and it's demands. This I feel is important in order to engage with this fast, and sometimes chaotic, modern world we live in.

Counselling / Psychotherapy...

As a qualified psychodynamic psychotherapist, together we will explore your past experiences and how they affect your relationship to, and experience of the present. Many of our thoughts are deep rooted in to our minds which have yet to be processed. It's about making the unconscious conscious, with the goal of breaking down the bonds of the past in order to live more fully in the present. By working this way allows you to discover the source of the problem that you are encountering.

This exploration can be a journey of self discovery, but a journey that doesn't need to be taken alone, and I will offer empathy whilst being non-judgemental in a warm friendly manner.

I also work using the Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) approach. This method will support the Psychodynamic work stated above, and in a collaborative way, we would explore your behaviour, emotions and feelings and how they are interpreted by your own thoughts. We will be able to become aware of any dysfunctional or negative thoughts, and unlearn these ways of thinking to more rational and positive cognitive methods.

I am experienced in helping clients who have experienced difficulties with...

- Anxiety / General Anxiety Disorder / Phobias
- Panic Attacks / Panic Disorder
- Low self-confidence / self-esteem
- Stress
- Depression / Feeling Sad / Low Mood
- OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder)
- Redundancy
- Relationships
- Anger Management
- PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder)

Counselling & Psychotherapy sessions would be at locations in Ruislip, Liverpool Street and Shoreditch areas in the City of London, and Baker Street in Central London.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
