About me

Hello, my name is Rachel. As a counsellor, I value you as an individual and I'm dedicated to nurturing your journey with warmth, empathy and respect. I will provide a safe space for you to explore your concerns and gain insight into your thoughts and feelings so you can move towards a better understanding of yourself.

In my sessions I use person-centred therapy, which focuses on creating a supportive and non-judgemental environment for the client to explore their thoughts and feelings. Depending on your needs I may incorporate elements of other types of therapy such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), which offers the chance to consider and challenge negative ways of thinking and provides helpful strategies to use moving forward. We can also look at approaches to support mental well-being, such as mindfulness and relaxation techniques. Drawing from these therapeutic practises, I will be there to encourage you as you develop goals, implement changes to your ways of thinking and daily habits, and ultimately work towards a happier more fulfilling life post therapy.

Sessions last for 50 minutes and are held in a private, confidential space, either face to face, by Zoom, WhatsApp or telephone. Please get in touch for a free, no obligation phone or Zoom consultation to find out more about how we can start our journey together.

Training, qualifications & experience

  • BA(Hons) Early Childhood Studies
  • Level 5 Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapeutic Skills and Theory
  • Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling
  • Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Studies
  • Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills

I have been a counsellor for over five years, working for a counselling service before starting my own private practice in 2024. I have successfully helped clients with various concerns; including (but not limited to) anxiety, depression, abuse, ADHD, bereavement and family issues. In this time I have developed a special interest, and subsequent expertise in working with clients struggling with low self-esteem stemming from previous trauma.

Before I became a counsellor, I spent many years working in a busy office environment, where effective communication and teamwork were essential. Later in my career, I moved into the care sector, supporting vulnerable individuals. This experience helped me to develop key therapeutic qualities such as treating others with dignity and respect, offering compassionate, non-judgemental care, and maintaining a person-centred approach. Over the years, colleagues, friends and family often turned to me to share their concerns, which helped inspire me to train formally as a counsellor. Since then, I have continued to build upon and refine these skills, which are invaluable as I support clients through the counselling process.

These real-world experiences, combined with a natural empathetic ear, have formed a strong foundation for my counselling work.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
