About me
Hi, I'm Paula - a person-centred counsellor and hypnotherapist based in Sheffield, offering online and telephone sessions.
If life feels overwhelming, or you are carrying more than you can manage alone, you do not have to work through it by yourself. I offer a calm, safe and non-judgemental space where you can talk openly about whatever is on your mind, knowing you will be met with empathy, understanding and respect.
I know from personal experience how powerful counselling can be. I sought counselling during a particularly difficult period in my own life, after leaving behind a teaching career I had once imagined I would have for the rest of my working life. Later, I experienced an incident in a new workplace that proved to be toxic and had a significant impact on my mental health. Counselling supported me through these experiences, helping me process what had happened, reconnect with myself and begin to find a way forward. This journey was an important part of my decision to change careers and retrain as a counsellor.
Having worked as a secondary school teacher for 17 years, I understand how workplace pressures can build, how closely our careers can become connected to our identity, and how isolating it can feel when we are struggling. I also understand the uncertainty, grief and loss of confidence that can accompany an unexpected career change or a harmful workplace experience.
My personal and professional experiences have strengthened my ability to listen deeply, recognise what may be difficult to put into words, and remain steady alongside people during challenging moments. These qualities shape the supportive, grounded and compassionate environment I offer in therapy.
If you are navigating a major life change - whether involving your career, health, identity or relationships - I can support you as you process your experiences, gain clarity and move towards your next chapter at a pace that feels right for you.
I also have extensive experience supporting people living with sight loss and visual impairment, as well as their families and those close to them. This includes helping people process the emotional impact of changes to their vision, shifts in identity, and the practical and personal adjustments that may follow.
I know how transformative it can be to have someone truly listen. My sessions give you space to breathe, to be yourself, and to explore whatever you need to — at your own pace and in your own way.

Further information
I work with clients experiencing anxiety, navigating major life changes, or living with chronic pain or long‑term illness. I also support people affected by visual impairment or sight loss, addiction, and low self‑esteem. In our first session, we’ll gently explore what’s been happening for you and begin shaping a plan that feels manageable and supportive. Many clients notice a gradual easing of symptoms within the first month, with continued improvement as we build trust and work together over time.
As an integrative counsellor experienced in working with diverse individuals, I tailor my approach to meet your unique needs. I recognise therapy is not one-size-fits-all and offer my clients a safe, supportive space to explore emotions and feelings freely, without fear of judgement.
