About me

Hello - I am Tricia and I offer counselling for adults.

From my own experience of having counselling, I know that it takes courage to make that first step. I tend to think of counselling as unravelling the tangled wires inside my head and tidying them up.  After each counselling session, I was able to think clearer and see things from a different perspective. I felt lighter, as though a weight had been lifted.

Sometimes it is easier to talk to someone that you can trust, away from family members or friends. Sometimes there is a need to off-load feelings and emotions that you might have been carrying around with you since childhood, or you might feel that life is becoming too much, that you are struggling to cope or suffering with anxiety and stress.

I strongly believe that the relationship in therapy is one of the most important first steps to making changes. I am a warm, sensitive, real person with heaps of empathy. I will provide you with a confidential space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings. My aim is to listen, understand and help you reach your full potential.

When counselling comes to an end, my door is always open to return in the future if you ever feel the need.

My counselling approach is integrative, where I bring in several modalities of counselling techniques and theories to meet the needs of the client.

I have experience and specialise in bereavement and grief work.  I also have experience in working with addiction, low self-esteem, anxiety and depression.

I am a registered member of the BACP and an accredited member of the NCS and adhere to their ethical frameworks.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Further information

I offer face to face sessions in Warley, Brentwood.  Sessions last for 50 minutes and are often weekly. I can offer short or long term therapy, allowing you to explore your difficulties in a safe, warm and respectful environment.

I am happy to work with anything that is causing you distress and whatever you choose to bring to each session.

To help you to decide if I am the right counsellor for you, we can have an initial fifteen minute telephone conversation, where you can tell me more about yourself and what you would like to achieve. You can get a sense of how counselling works and see if we feel comfortable working together. There will be no obligation to you.

I have an enhanced DBS Certificate and am fully insured.  I regularly attend ongoing professional development courses.
