Aashna Counselling & Psychotherapy
1 Castle Mews
As a British Asian woman, there were many cultural challenges I faced without adding to the mix of life stresses. Older parents with ancestral values, British raised children with modern values, so where did I sit? Trying to keep peace between two generations. Being a divorced woman is unmentionable , however its part of life around us, do we stick with a life we haven’t chosen as are parents say, or do we get a life of our own as our children say?
We continue to work hard in an ever-challenging world but behind closed doors we can live a life of isolation. It’s hard living the dual life one creates. We question who we are and what we want to be, but do we really understand what that is?
As you talk I will listen, with your words I will see your life. Confidentiality will be maintained as therapy is a process and journey of discovery, which most of us would never embark upon if it were not for the problems or challenges we suddenly encounter; yet it is an enriching process. Making the decision to approach therapy is a positive step. Together we can explore what you are experiencing, whether it’s how you feel about life such as why me again; anxiety and stress, what’s next; bereavement and the emptiness or things to deal with, but how?; what you think others’ expectations are of you; how your values may be challenged due to social and cultural and belief systems, but yet it is not who you are. I work with you at your pace, you are the vessel and therapy is the journey, I won’t push you nor direct you.
My training is as a psychotherapist/counsellor using the Person-Centered approach which is focusing on you and I hope to provide a space that feels empathic and safe. I have been in the NHS caring profession for ten years, I also volunteer with North London Hospice and First Hope Families (domestic violence).
Feel free to call and have a no obligation chat, to see if we would like to meet and progress in your therapeutic journey.
