About me

I WILL HAVE AVAILABILITY FOR A LIMITED NUMBER OF NEW CLIENTS FROM OCTOBER 2023.

Hello I'm Naomi, a person-centred counsellor.  This means that I offer to sit alongside you in a safe, non-judgemental and empathic environment where we can explore and understand what is going on for you.  My aim is to empower you to grow in your own direction, at your own pace. Working in this way can help you to take what you have experienced in the counselling room into your day to day life.

I sometimes offer creative tools to help clients express themselves when words can be difficult to find. This might mean working with art materials, music, objects or with a sand tray to express what is going on internally in an external, visual and tactile way giving you the opportunity explore any meanings or metaphors that come up for you and experiment with ways that you may like to adapt.

I have a particular interest in person-centred creative and expressive arts therapy which can help clients explore how physical, mental and emotional responses connect to bring meaning to their experiences. This work can be very powerful and if clients are interested in this area it is something we may explore once we have an established therapeutic relationship.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Additional information

Sessions from £50 per hour.

Further information

I offer weekly face-to-face sessions lasting 50 minutes each. If you are interested in online sessions we can discuss this at our first meeting.

I offer an initial assessment session at a fee of £40. This session is an opportunity to talk about what has brought you to counselling and what you would like to achieve through our work together. Importantly, this first session allows us to consider whether my way of working and experience are suited to your needs, and if we feel comfortable working together. There is no obligation to commit to ongoing therapy after the initial session.

Our work together can be short term, typically over 6 - 8 session blocks, or longer term open-ended therapy with reviews built in to check that the counselling is still meeting your needs.
