About me

At times we can all experience life situations and events that feel very overwhelming. It may create feelings of anger, stress, being unable to cope with everyday situations, feelings of sadness, of being low, frustration or powerlessness. Sometimes it may be hard to find someone to talk to who will understand and appreciate what it is that you may be experiencing. At times it may just be too hard to work out what is going on for you. Counselling can be a real opportunity to explore not only the current issues and what is bringing you but also to look at the root causes of your difficulties and to work with any patterns and behaviours that may be unhelpful. As a Psychodynamic Counsellor my aim is to firstly provide a warm, friendly, confidential and professional environment in which you can explore the issues that you feel need addressing. We will look at the underlying issues that are causing these difficulties and work towards change and self discovery.

I offer both short term and long term counselling for both individuals and couples. I am fully insured and am a member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) abiding by their ethical framework and guidelines. I am also an Accredited Counsellor with the National Counselling Society (NCS). All my work is fully supervised and I am insured. I also regularly attend continuous professional development training opportunities

Experience

I have experience of working in private practice but also within a youth counselling organisation working with adolescence and also experience of working for a national sexual health charity. I have a particular interest in working with sexual minority issues and people who identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual or Transgender. I also work as an Online Therapist via the use of email, instant chat or video as I appreciate it is not always possible for people to attend regular face to face sessions and for some is more convenient. This can be arranged by contacting me if you feel it would be more preferable. I am a member of the Association for Counselling and Therapy Online (ACTO).

I am committed to providing a safe, non judgemental space for all my clients and maintain a very professional approach to my work. I will attend training courses on a regular basis to ensure that my work continues to meet these standards.

Further information

I am a fully trained and experienced counsellor and have been in practice for over 10 years after obtaining my Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling with the Westminster Pastoral Foundation (WPF).I have experience of working with both adults and adolescence and currently work in private practice.  I  have a particular interest in working with sexual minority issues and those who identify as LGBTQ. I have undertaken extensive training with Pink Therapy and have also worked within the field of HIV .

Although I have been involved in counselling for many years now this is not where I started out life and worked for over 17 years within an office environment before deciding to undergo a career change into the therapeutic world, which was a result of my own life journey. Naturally this has also allowed me to follow a path that I have seen as very rewarding in many ways and is hugely satisfying to see clients move forward and grow, leaving therapy often in a better place.

My current counselling role sees me working both in a short term and long term way, pulling on skills and knowledge that I have built up through my continuous training and professional development. I work with many types of issues ranging from relationships, depression, sexual identity, bereavement, anxiety and stress.

I work and am qualified as an Online Therapist as I recognise that more and more people access services online. However, it is also about recognising that for some it is not always possible to attend regular face to face sessions due to work commitments, health and mobility problems, cultural issues, location, anxiety and social difficulties. Online Therapy can work well in these situations. If preferred, it is also possible to have a combination of both online and face to face therapy.
