About me

I have worked with a wide range of people with mental health conditions and emotional difficulties over more than a 30-year period in NHS and private settings. I have experience of and am happy to work with people who are experiencing a variety of issues including depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship difficulties, neurodiversity (ADHD, ASD), learning difficulties, bereavement, physical health, mind body issues. I am passionate about supporting a person to disentangle patterns that are no longer desirable. Life's challenges may not have a diagnosis though emotional upset is present that is causing confusion. This may show itself in personal relationship difficulties or a feeling of inertia.

My priority is to respect what each individual brings, which is at the heart of a unique personal struggle. My focus is working collaboratively with each individual to support an increased sense of control over one’s life through reviewing old, historic patterns of behaviour and revising coping strategies, looking together at the barriers to change.

We will spend time looking at your history to put your current issues in a context. We will look at early family relationships and how this may be impacting on your adult relationships and view of self. My approach is collaborative. I enjoy working with someone to effect change. It can feel intimidating making the decision to start therapy and I maintain a warm and friendly approach which enables change.

I am passionate about supporting people to overcome personal difficulties and breaking down the barriers to change.

My main psychotherapy approach is Cognitive Analytic Therapy which I find to be a perfect balance in looking at how our histories can impact on our current relationships and the way in which we see ourselves in the world.

Training, qualifications & experience

I initially trained as an Occupational Therapist qualifying in 1991. I worked for the NHS in a variety of mental health settings for many years. This part of my career gave me the ability to work with a wide range of different presenting issues. Soon after, I developed an enthusiasm for Cognitive Analytic Therapy ( CAT ) for which I qualified in 1999.

I enjoyed supervising other therapists in their work where reflection would enable creative thinking.

I have experience of working in a Trauma team where people would have a diagnosis of PTSD. Most people will experience trauma in their lives to varying degrees. I am happy to work with how this can affect a person's functioning.

I am comfortable working with people who are Neurodivergent as I spent years working in learning difficulties teams. This would include diagnosis of ADHD and Autism.

I have a private practice offering Cognitive Analytic Therapy. I love the relational and collaborative aspects of this poignant approach. It can be time limited (16 - 24 sessions) or extended CAT over a longer period of time. I also enjoy a strengths based approach stemming from my years in the NHS.

Though CAT is my main approach, I am influenced by psycho-dynamic thinking and integrate a humanist and person centered approach throughout my work.

I have recently worked in an NHS Primary Care Psychotherapy Team at the Tavistock and Portman Trust . My interest in the body mind connection was established during this time.

I am passionate about supporting people to overcome personal difficulties and breaking down the barriers to change.

I am a member of ACAT and I am HCPC registered.

My focus is working collaboratively with each individual to support an increased sense of control over one’s life through reviewing old, historic patterns of behaviour and revising coping strategies, looking together at the barriers to change. We will use the tools from CAT theory. I enjoy the way this can be tailored to your needs.
