About me

BECAUSE PEOPLE MAKE SENSE

Making sense of your story

You’re tired of pretending you’re fine.

Perhaps you’ve spent years holding everything together, being strong for everyone else while quietly carrying your own struggles.

Maybe you’re feeling anxious, overwhelmed, disconnected, or simply aware that something doesn’t feel quite right.

Counselling offers time and space to pause, reflect and begin making sense of what you’re experiencing.

People make sense.

Our emotions, reactions and ways of coping often have a story behind them.

Anxiety can make sense.
Shame can make sense.
Depression can make sense.

Even the patterns we develop often make sense when we understand the experiences that shaped them.

There is often a story behind the struggle.

Rather than seeing these patterns as weaknesses to overcome, I believe they deserve to be understood with curiosity and compassion.

Counselling is not only about understanding the past. It can also help us make sense of what is happening now, explore the choices ahead, and discover new ways of relating to ourselves and others.

At Marc B Counselling, I provide professional counselling in Magherafelt and online across Northern Ireland. I offer a confidential, supportive space where we can explore what matters to you, understand your experiences more fully, and work towards meaningful, lasting change.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

My approach

I work as an integrative counsellor, drawing on a range of evidence-based approaches and adapting my work to your individual needs.

My approach is influenced by attachment theory, trauma-informed practice and compassionate approaches to emotional wellbeing.

Rather than assuming that one approach suits everyone, I adapt my work to the individual and to what feels most important to them.

Depending on your needs, counselling may involve exploring past experiences, making sense of present difficulties, improving relationships or considering the changes you want to make.
