About me
Hi, I’m Lindsay, Psychotherapist and founder of Sheffield Counselling & CBT. I specialise in anxiety, low self-esteem and relational trauma, particularly where patterns in relationships leave you feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or not good enough.
I have over 12 years’ experience and originally trained as an integrative therapist, qualifying while working within a specialist trauma and abuse service in Sheffield. Alongside this, I developed strong CBT skills, which I now integrate into my work to support meaningful and lasting change.
Many of the people I work with are used to hearing things like “just relax” or “don’t overthink it”, and feeling worse, not better. If that’s your experience, you’re not alone.
My approach is both compassionate and practical. Together, we make sense of your anxiety or low self-worth, understand where it comes from, and — importantly — begin to change the patterns that are keeping it in place.
I don’t believe in quick fixes, but I do believe change is possible, often sooner than you might expect.I will help you develop the understanding and confidence to feel more in control, more grounded, and more like yourself again.
Training, qualifications & experience
I trained as an integrative therapist and went on to develop further expertise in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), which I now integrate into my work to support meaningful and lasting change.
I have extensive experience working with anxiety, low self-esteem, and sexual trauma, including complex trauma resulting from abuse and difficult relationship experiences.
I also work with clients who have ADHD, or who recognise traits in themselves such as feeling overwhelmed, struggling to switch off, or finding it difficult to organise thoughts and emotions. I understand how ADHD can interact with anxiety and self-esteem, and tailor my approach to work in a way that feels manageable and effective.
I have worked within a range of respected services, including Eva Therapy, Sheffield CBT Practice, Cornerstone Counselling and Therapy Centre, and Vida (a specialist service supporting survivors of domestic and sexual abuse). Alongside my private practice, this has given me a depth of experience working with a wide range of clients and presentations.

Areas of counselling I deal with
Other areas of counselling I deal with
Working with sexual trauma and abuse is of particular importance to me. I regularly support clients who are affected both psychologically and physically by a one-off event, such as rape, or a series of traumatic experiences over time.
I also work with adults who have ADHD, or who identify with traits such as feeling overwhelmed, struggling to switch off, or finding it difficult to organise their thoughts and emotions. This often overlaps with anxiety, low self-esteem, and relationship difficulties, and we work together in a way that feels manageable and tailored to you.
