About me
Hello. I am an experienced counsellor working with Adults in Cheltenham. I provide compassionate support during times of anxiety, worry and emotional distress . Please contact me for an initial consultation to explore your concerns and how I can help you.
Training, qualifications & experience
I came to counselling, later in my own life, after recognising how powerful it can be to have space to pause, reflect and understand the deeper stories that shape our lives. I qualified from Gloucestershire Counselling Services (GCS) with a Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling awarded by the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy ( BACP)
I am also trained to deliver Time Limited Therapy which can be useful for clients seeking counselling for between 6 and 12 sessions where we work on an agreed area of focus.
During my training I worked on three placements, two for counselling charities and one with a drug and alcohol service, all in Gloucestershire. These intense and rewarding client experiences introduced me to a case load of diverse clients that were a privilege to work with.
I continually attend clinical Supervision and professional development training in line with what is expected of me through the BACP ethical framework for the Counselling professions
I am guided by curiosity rather than judgement and my approach is to help provide insight into recurring themes and patterns, allowing you to understand yourself and make choices that feel more aligned with acceptance and awareness. I believe that meaningful change can happen through insight, empathy and the therapeutic relationship. Together we can reflect on what might lie beneath current dilemmas, exploring what may be causing you difficulty, in order to create space for new perspectives and change.
Issues I work with include;
- Navigating Life Transitions
- Retirement and shifting identity
- Relationship difficulties
- Drug and alcohol addiction
- Anxiety and depression
- low self-esteem
- Grief, Loss and Bereavement
- Emotional regulation
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
