Andrée Cooke MSc Psychotherapist UKCP
Trained as a Gestalt therapist Andrée’s psychotherapeutic style is inter-relational, and embodied, focusing on the here and now.
Therapy provides a confidential space to resolve, change and improve problematic feelings, beliefs, behaviours, relationship issues and somatic responses (sensations in the body). It is a process which offers personal development and acts as a catalyst for change.
Working with Andrée your therapeutic journey will focus not only on the content of what you talk about, but also the process of how you share your feelings and experiences. Andrée offers a supportive environment to explore feelings and learn how to best support, solve and soothe them, through modelling a healthy and positive relationship experience and providing appropriate feedback.
Her therapeutic experience is broad and encompasses different client groups including working for low-cost women’s counselling agencies, with young refugees, within student services at two London universities, and a private practice specialising in working with arts professionals.
She welcomes people from all socio-political, cultural, economic and diverse backgrounds.
Having had a career in the visual arts sector herself, she is particularly experienced at working with arts professionals, (dancers, actors, musicians, and visual artists), understanding the emotional and practical challenges of working as a creative art professional.
Andrée provides both short and long-term therapy. She works online and/or face to face.
Relationships and couple work.
People may need support at any time in their relationships. Partners may find it difficult to talk to one another, or they may feel distant. Or perhaps something has happened to change how they feel about one another. Many couples come to therapy because there has been a crisis in the relationship, shared life goals have changed or because there are communication difficulties.
In couples therapy, we meet together to talk about what is happening for you and to explore ways forward. We might focus on how you communicate with each another, in this way building a foundation on which you can resolve your difficulties in the future.
Whether you are facing a crisis or trying to face long-term problems between you, Andrée aims to support both of you as you work through your difficulties.
Couples are usually seen for fairly short periods of time (12 sessions or so), initially once weekly, then fortnightly.
Andrée works with couples whatever their sexual orientation. She works online and/or face-to-face.
Training, qualifications & experience
Andrée trained at Metanoia and has an MSc in Gestalt Psychotherapy. She has been a practitioner for ten years and is registered with UKCP.
Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.
As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.
UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
