About me

Are you a worried parent, feeling lost and unsure of how to support your child or young person through their challenges? Maybe I can help.

I'm Kate a non- judgemental and compassionate Counsellor for children and young people. based in Colchester, I offer both in person and online sessions, and work flexibly with clients by tailoring my approach to meet the unique needs of each individual.

My passion lies in empowering and encouraging children and young people I work with, helping them explore and understand their thoughts, feelings, and experiences in a safe, warm and supportive environment.

With experience both in the NHS and private practice I bring a depth of understanding to my work, ensuring that each client receives personalised and professional support. I provide a space where children and young people feel truly heard - free from judgement - so they can develop self awareness, coping strategies, and a sense of resilience.

My goal is to build a trusting, collaborative relationship where we work together towards greater self understanding, emotional well being, and positive change.

With over 40 years of experience working with children and young people in a variety of settings, I understand some of the challenges they face. I have both lived and professional experience of neurodivergence, which allows me to work in a flexible compassionate and understanding way to best support your child and their needs.

My background in early years and primary education along with my work as a Counsellor has shown me the power of play and creative arts in therapy. Talking about feelings can sometimes feel overwhelming, and while i have no set agenda or expectations, I recognise that using a variety of resources and creative activities can help children and young people feel more relaxed, engaged and comfortable in our sessions.

Above all, I strive to create a warm, supportive space where each child feels safe to explore their thoughts and emotions in a way that works best for them.

I understand that choosing the right Counsellor is an important decision. To help you feel confident in your choice, I offer a free 20 minute phone call, where we can chat about your child's needs and see if I might be the right fit for them. This is a chance for to ask any questions and get a sense of how I work before deciding to move forward. My goal is to ensure you feel supported in making the best decision for your child's well being.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
