About me

Life can be challenging and sometimes we just need someone we can confide in, someone we can trust, someone we can speak to honestly and openly, someone we feel safe with. We don't want to be judged, but listened to carefully in a caring environment. I am that person - a passionate person-centred therapist.

As a therapist, I dedicate my time with you to facilitating the exploration and understanding of your emotions, feelings and behaviours. I help you make sense of your experiences and problems, supporting you to resolve those issues that weigh heavily. Together we work to find a better peace of mind, better self-confidence, self-understanding, and acceptance of you.

We can meet at your convenience - by phone, online or in person at my counselling suite in Brereton, Cheshire. Feel free to contact me should you wish to book to meet or indeed have questions, I will always aim to reply within 24 hours.

Training, qualifications & experience

Qualifications

I'm a professionally qualified person-centred counsellor, registered with the British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) - Membership Number: 00951943. I abide by their ethical framework and engage in regular supervision. I am committed to always enhancing my skills, knowledge and expertise and therefore engage in regular training and updates.

Experience

In addition to private practice, I am also a volunteer counsellor for a  prison counselling service, working with women who have received short, medium and long-term sentences within the North West area and a women's centre who offer a range of health information, education and supportive services.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Your First Session & Beyond

When we initially meet (in person, by telephone or online) we'll talk about how we will work together and then begin to explore what you want to bring to your sessions.

As a person-centred counsellor I want to hear about what you want to talk about, I will not direct you or offer you solutions or advice. What I will do is facilitate your understanding of your feelings and emotions, aid you to explore yourself gaining a better appreciation of you, your circumstances and where you want to be.

I provide both short and long-term therapy and we can discuss the duration of our work together. For counselling to have a positive effect it is important that you attend your sessions regularly, but how long you remain in therapy is always your choice.
