About me
Hello, my name is Julie and I am a Pluralistic Therapist. My approach is one of trust, warmth, empathy, understanding and compassion, creating a space for you which is safe, confidential, non-judgemental and caring. A space where you will be able to explore difficult thoughts and feelings, allowing you to move on with your life in a way which is meaningful for you.
My approach is also one of respect, not only for you as the client, but also in terms of your knowledge, life experiences, beliefs and attitudes. I will ensure to meet you where you are at, going at your own pace and in a way which is preferable to you.
As a Pluralistic Counsellor, I draw on a range of therapeutic approaches, including Person-Centred Therapy, CBT and Psychodyamic Therapy, to co-create a way forward with you. This means we can focus on what feels most important to you at any given moment, with the flexibility to adapt as things arise.
Being a registered member of both BACP and COSCA, I have a duty to abide by the Ethics and Values of these professional bodies.
At present, I only offer in-person counselling. Sessions can be both short or long term depending on your needs and preferences. Sessions are usually 50 minutes long and there is flexibility around the frequency of sessions.

Training, qualifications & experience
MA (Hons), PG Dip (Education), PG Dip Counselling - University of Aberdeen
I am a fully qualified counsellor and a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and Counselling and Psychotherapy in Scotland (COSCA) and, as such, I adhere to their Ethical Frameworks
I have a Post-Graduate Diploma in Counselling from the University of Aberdeen.
Currently I am a Counsellor in private practice, based in Banchory. I have also been volunteering for the past two years as a Counsellor with a non profit organisation based in Aberdeenshire.
Formerly, I volunteered as a Listener with the Listening Service (NHS)
I have many years experience working in a school setting supporting young people with regard to their mental, emotional and social health (in conjunction with health professionals)
As a data handler, I am registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO)
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
