About me

I am a Psychotherapeutic counsellor with experience working with adults and 11-18 year olds with a wide range of issues. I am an accredited member of the National Counselling Society MNCS (Accred) and a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy MBACP, and adhere to their code of ethical practice. I am also a member of the Complimentary Medical Association MCMA.

Deciding that you need professional help to work through the issues you have is the first step, and I appreciate that it is not always easy. We all have paths in life that we do our best to navigate through, but sometimes this does not always go as planned. This may cause stress, anxiety, low self-esteem and confidence, relationship issues, addictions, compulsions, loneliness, isolation, self-harming behaviours, eating disorders and feeling very overwhelmed, to name just a few.

Communicating thoughts and feelings with family and friends can be difficult for fear of being judged or thinking others will not understand your struggles which can be common, and can leave you feeling isolated, vulnerable and a burden to others. This is the reason people turn to counselling and the next step is finding a counsellor you feel comfortable with which can seem a daunting prospect at times as counsellors have different approaches.

My approach is one that is based on a good therapeutic relationship between us, offering you a casual, warm, comfortable, confidential and non-judgemental space for us to explore your difficulties and issues together.

As a counsellor I appreciate that sharing your problems with me can be painful at times so we will work together at a pace you feel comfortable with. Besides person-centred therapy, we can draw from other therapeutic styles to provide you with a wider range of options to use. The work we do will not be to a set agenda but rather just a deep level of acceptance and respect for you as a fellow human being, with my aim to gain a full understanding of what it is like in your world.

Through our sessions I will help you find the right path to a happier, more fulfilled life and for you to have a better understanding of yourself by finding the right strategies and tools to put in place and feel more in control of your life.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
