About me

I’m Josh, a qualified counsellor based in York. Counselling for me is about creating a safe trusting space where you feel comfortable to share whatever it is that you want to bring to our sessions. Together, and at your pace, we can unpack and explore the different aspects that make up you and look at the areas that might be causing you difficulty at the moment. I believe that you have the answers to whatever it is you’re facing, but sometimes we need a bit of help to uncover them.

I work with a variety of areas including, but not limited to, anxiety, relationship problems, anger, low mood, stress, life changes, and family issues. No matter what it is you'd like to bring, we can explore and unpack it together.

My way of working has you as the focus of everything we do while being alongside you throughout and offering a non-judgemental approach. You may not always feel like it, but I believe that you are the expert in you, and through an exploration of self my aim is to assist you in gaining insight and understanding into who you are and how you work. From this, I believe that with greater self-awareness, you can then make an informed decision as to how you want to tackle your problems as well as becoming empowered to be the person you want.

I offer both short-term and longer-term counselling either in-person or online as I understand that life can sometimes be chaotic and so I aim to be flexible when it comes to counselling. No matter your situation, feel free to get in touch and we will endeavour to work through it together.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.
