I offer Counselling or Psychotherapy for individuals and couples. I work on either a short or longer term basis, depending on what is required or preferred. I agree this at the beginning of therapy, or as the work progresses.
Therapy can help with a number of issues including general depression and anxiety, psychological distress relating to trauma or past events and improving confidence and getting better prepared for work and life's challenges.
As a therapist, I aim to help individuals make sense of their thoughts, feelings and experiences and to support them in addressing particular problems and in making changes. I remain sensitive to the fact that everyone has their own desired outcome from and expectations of counselling and that this may change over their course of therapy. I believe the therapeutic process can be constructive, unpredictable and rewarding.
Whatever the issue, creating the time and space in which to explore things in greater detail and to become more familiar with our internal world and the things that inspire, motivate and challenge us, can be a real gift. Counselling or therapy is a way to explore things which may be difficult or painful to share and can help to ease their impact and build new understandings and possibilities.
I have experience of working with trauma, addiction, family relationships and sexual problems.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have an MA in Counselling & Psychotherapy and a Post-graduate Diploma in Counselling & Psychotherapy which is accredited by the BACP. I have worked as an individual and group counsellor for different organisations.
I am experienced in group work and have a BACP accredited qualification in The Facilitation of Therapeutic Groups.
I have a Certificate in Psychosexual Therapy from Tavistock Relationships.
I have over ten years experience working with addiction. I also have specialist training in and have worked with individuals who have experienced trauma, including sexual abuse and domestic violence.
As a counsellor, I have worked with individuals presenting with various issues, including depression, anxiety, work related stress, relationship problems and more long standing matters relating to childhood or specific past events.
I have worked with individuals who are estranged from their families and are experiencing psychological distress and other unresolved matters as a result of this.
I am a Staff Counsellor for an NHS Trust where I see clients for a range of personal and work-related matters. As a private practitioner, I see clients who are experiencing stress and anxiety arising from work and personal matters such as relationships and previous life experience.
I have worked with individuals in an open-ended way over long periods of time. This has allowed a strong therapeutic alliance to develop in which both long standing and current issues have been considered. I also work in a time-limited way focusing more on specific problems or towards particular goals.
I have completed research into Family Estrangement and have worked with groups and individuals who have experienced this.
I have and MA in Counselling & Psychotherapy and a Post-graduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy accredited by the BACP.
I have a qualification in the Facilitation of Therapeutic Groups (BACP accredited).
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
Accredited Register Scheme
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
