Jill Twentyman MBACP Integrative Counsellor PG Dip (BACP accd)
I offer individual Counselling or Psychotherapy. I work on either a short or longer term basis, depending on what is required or preferred. I will agree this with clients at the beginning of therapy, or as the work progresses.
Therapy can help with a number of issues including general depression and anxiety, psychological distress relating to trauma or past events and improving confidence and getting better prepared for work and life challenges.
As a therapist, I aim to help individuals make sense of their thoughts, feelings and experiences and to support them in addressing particular problems and in making changes. I remain sensitive to the fact that each client has their own desired outcome or objective from counselling process and that this may change over their course of therapy. I see the therapeutic process as constructive, unpredictable and rewarding.
Whatever the issue, creating the time and space in which to explore things in greater detail and to become more familiar with our internal world and the things that inspire, motivate and challenge us, can be a real gift. The improved insight and self-knowledge gained from therapy, not only helps to ease the distress of the initial problem but can be helpfully applied to other matters and areas of life.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have an MA in Counselling & Psychotherapy (with Distinction ) a Post-graduate Diploma in Counselling & Psychotherapy which is accredited by the BACP. I have worked as an individual and group counsellor for a number of different organisations and also see clients privately.
I am experienced in group work and have a BACP accredited qualification in The Facilitation of Therapeutic Groups.
I have over ten years experience working with addiction. I also have specialist training in and have worked with individuals who have experienced trauma, including sexual abuse and domestic violence.
As a counsellor, I have worked with individuals presenting with various issues, including depression, anxiety, work related stress, relationship problems and more long standing matters relating to childhood or specific past events.
I have worked with individuals who are estranged from their families and are experiencing psychological distress and other unresolved matters as a result of this.
I am a Staff Counsellor for an NHS Trust where I see clients for a range of personal and work-related matters.I also see clients who are experiencing stress and anxiety as a result of pressure and work and things outside.
I have worked with individuals in an open-ended way over long periods of time. This has allowed a strong therapeutic alliance to develop in which long standing and current issues have been considered. I have also worked in a time-limited way focusing more on specific problems or towards particular goals.
I have completed research into Family Estrangement and have worked with groups and individuals who have experienced this.
