About me

I am a Person Centred Therapist, Supervisor and Trainer.  Using the Core values of the Person Centred approach provides the foundation for real therapeutic growth. It is from this place that I can work with others - trusting there is a way forward for everyone.

My psychotherapy work covers many areas of mental health which may be causing you distress: anxiety, depression, stress, bereavement and loss, childhood and adult abuse, ADHD, ASD and many other issues.

I have extensive experience and understanding of working with addictions  - alcohol and substance use. I worked for many years within this field supporting anyone affected by their own or another's substance use. I am qualified with Alcohol Focus Scotland and also trained in Acu-detox which is auricular (ear) acupuncture for substance use.

Additionally I have a broad experience of peri-natal mental health, both in 1:1 settings and group-work.  Within this work I undertook training to become a a qualified Infant Massage Instructor, working with parents and babies both in group and 1:1 settings.

Working as a Supervisor, I support the clinical practice of qualified and trainee counsellors/psychotherapists.
I currently work as Tutor on post-graduate Diploma for Counsellors & Psychotherapists in training which is approved by the BACP.

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold a Post-graduate Diploma in Counselling and Certification in Supervision.

As a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (www.bacp.co.uk), I abide by their ethical framework for practitioners.

I am also an accredited counsellor with Alcohol Focus Scotland (AFS) (www.alcohol-focus-scotland.org.uk).

My initial work in Counselling began working across Edinburgh and the Lothians for many years with Drug and Alcohol misuse. I have trained as an Acu Detox Specialist with NADA UK offering Auricular (ear) Acupuncture to individuals and groups.

I hold COSCA Certificate in Counselling Supervision and offer supervision to experienced counsellors and trainee/student counsellors.

I  work as a Tutor on a post-graduate counselling diploma supporting the development of trainee counsellors. This programme is accredited by BACP (British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy).

Cyber-Therapist Certificate -  This offers working remotely with clients - on-line (eg. Zoom), Telephone Counselling, E-mail Counselling & other areas of remote working.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
