MBACP

About me

Hello,

I'm James and I am a registered BACP counsellor with almost a decade of experience in various healthcare, educational and private practice settings. These different settings have provided me with a large amount of experience helping people from different cultures, backgrounds and ages navigate the often difficult areas of their lives.

As someone who has used counselling in my own life and found it to be a vital part of processing, challenging and healing I aim to offer a flexible and client-centred approach to each individual that I speak to.

I offer face-to-face counselling at an office located close to my home and I also offer online/telephone sessions for those that prefer this method of counselling.

Training, qualifications & experience

My work with you will draw from my breadth of experience as a therapist within the NHS where I worked for 8 years with a large patient base. During this time I worked closely with healthcare professionals such as GPs to help patients with a variety of issues including but not limited to depression, anxiety, trauma, loss, self-esteem, stress and relationship issues.

Since 2019 I have also worked (and continue to do so) within the education sector in a college, working with 16-18 year olds as well as mature students at higher education level.

I am also counselling lead at Maundy Relief in Accrington. Maundy is a local charity dedicated to meeting people's immediate needs in many different ways, including offering psychological help.

As a member of the BACP I work within the framework and boundaries set by the organisation. My aim is to promote a safe, non-judgemental space where people of any background, with any issues may come to develop insight, build resilience and find the right way forward at their own pace.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
