About us
Human Development Scotland (HDS) is a Scottish charity. Our mission is to relieve mental and emotional distress by increasing the availability of, and access to, high quality psychodynamic and psychoanalytic counselling and psychotherapy. We have a low cost service staffed by our trainee counsellors, based in our offices in central Glasgow. We also offer counselling at affordable rates with qualified counsellors at a variety of locations across Scotland or online. We also provide Employee Assistance services and training programmes in counselling, counselling skills, supervision, and therapeutic work with children and young people.
Training, qualifications & experience
Our counsellors are trained in a psychodynamic approach. Each has experience in areas such as anxiety, depression, relationships, loss and bereavement and identity. Our service is ideal if you are looking to work more ‘in depth’ on long-term issues. All HDS counsellors are members of an appropriate professional organisation and follow their requirements for supervision, professional development and ethical standards.

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

We aim to provide an affordable counselling service and offer a range of fee options for working with either trainee counsellors or experienced counsellors. Costs will be provided to you after you make an enquiry. You can then decide how to proceed.
