About me

Accepting new clients I am Gemma and I am a Psychological Therapist 07385180612 / email

Trained and qualified as a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist and Clinical Hypnotherapist. I use a mix of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Clinical Hypnotherapy, Mindfulness and other Psychotherapeutic practices to assist you in achieving your goals. I am passionate about helping people and feel privileged to be able to take this step with you in your journey.

I understand that the prospect of seeking therapy can be a daunting one, many people dislike traditional therapies for the same reasons: labels, stigma, fears of diving into past situations without the desire to do so or understanding of why.  I work differently to that. I work collaboratively with you, I know that the expert on your life is you.  What is important to you is the centre of our conversation, I offer a safe and non-judgemental space to explore your difficulties in order to create a positive and lasting change in your life at a pace and with the direction that you need.

I specialise in working with adults and work with clients seeking support with depression, anxiety, self-limiting beliefs, self-care, goal attainment, trauma and addiction. If you’re not sure if I can work with your circumstances please get in touch and we can have an initial discussion around your needs.

TESTIMONIALS

Gemma created a calm and safe environment where I felt supported. I was able to speak honestly and openly. This has helped me to work through some very difficult emotions, I now feel less anxious, more in control and able to cope better.

In only 6 sessions with Gemma, I feel as though I have made more progress than I have in years of trying to manage my depression and relationship difficulties.

Gemma worked with me on my goals and helped me to identify what would help me to make the most significant changes in my life in the time that we agreed.

Clear Water Therapy has been helping me with anxiety. I always feel so relaxed and positive after a session with Gemma, I have been able to start doing some of things the things I enjoy again.

I had a hypnotherapy session with Gemma, mainly focussing on weight loss. It was such a great experience. I didn’t realise how many other issues that it would bring to light, issues that were causing me to feel the way I did.
Although at first, I was a bit sceptical, I found the experience totally different from what I perceived Hypnosis to be. I found it very emotional and left the session re-evaluating the way I was living certain parts of my life. Learning the things that are linked certain feelings.
Anyway nearly a stone and a half lighter, changing some bad habits and generally more awareness of myself.
Can’t wait for my follow up session.

Gemma is very professional. She is passionate about helping people, calm and easy to talk openly with. She really helped me to work through a loss that I was struggling to process.

Individual Work

If you would like to understand yourself better or improve your relationships; if you feel stressed, anxious or overwhelmed in life, or are struggling with strong emotions such as grief, anger, depression; if you would like to change behaviours that are impacting on your life negatively or struggle with negative self talk, asserting your boundaries or have other problems that are impacting on your life, then counselling and hypnotherapy can help.

I offer sessions in person at various in Musselburgh, East Lothian.

My Therapeutic Values centre around compassion, kindness and connection. I believe that the most important gain from a therapeutic relationship is the connection achieved from working collaboratively, thus allowing the safety to become vulnerable enough to heal and to grow.  Again and again, I see an innate resilience that never fails to inspire me, firmly believing that the problem does not define the individual.

What's Next

It can be daunting to take the next step, no matter how big or small your hesitation may feel please reach out, share your curiosities with me and together we can navigate if this will be the right fit for you. When you feel ready you can book your initial session where I can hear what's brought you, we can get clear on your potential goals for therapy and how you might like to proceed. There is no obligation to book more sessions, we work at your pace. The frequency and duration of sessions is something we can agree on together and review regularly.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
