About me

Hello, I'm Lisa, a BACP registered counsellor based in Maidenhead, offering sessions in person, online or by phone.

I work with adults who are facing anxiety, low mood, loss, relationship difficulties, grief, life transitions, lack of self-esteem. Sometimes there's a clear reason for seeking help, and sometimes it's more a sense that something doesn't feel right and you'd like the space to make sense of it. Either way, you don't have to know what is off before you get in touch.

I work in a person-centred way, which means I trust that you are the only that knows how you feel and how you experience your life. My role isn't to tell you what to do, but to offer a calm, respectful space where you can explore what's going on at your own pace. Together we will explore behavioural patterns and explore your feelings about things that happen to you. I truly believe that when people feel listened to and accepted, they're better able to understand themselves and find their own way forward.

I offer a free 20 minute introductory call. It's a chance to tell me a little about what's brought you here, ask any questions, and get a feel for whether we'd work well together.

If you'd like to talk, I'd be glad to hear from you.

Training, qualifications & experience

Experience

Before starting my private practice, I spent a few years with a local charity, where I supported adults from a wide range of backgrounds and life circumstances. It shaped how I work today, helping me to listen closely, stay with difficult feelings, and meet each person as an individual.

I'm a registered member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and I take my ongoing development seriously. I'm currently learning more about bereavement and prolonged grief, which is deepening my understanding of how loss affects us as human beings, both in the mind and physically.

Training and qualifications

I am a fully qualified counsellor with a:

  • Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling
  • BACP registered member
  • DBS

Ongoing training on new research outcomes concerning mental health

I work within the BACP Ethical Framework and receive regular clinical supervision

In addition to my core counselling training, I have undertaken further professional development in depression, suicide and grief. I have also completed the Foundation Certificate in Single-Session Therapy (SST).

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

I've lived in several different countries, and that has shaped the kind of counsellor I am. Moving between cultures taught me how differently people understand family, emotion, success and struggle, and how much of what we think of as "normal" is learned. It also left me endlessly curious about how people find ways to cope and survive. I've come to see many of the patterns people feel ashamed of, such as overthinking, withdrawing or keeping busy, as ways they once found to get through something difficult. I'm interested in understanding those patterns with you, with respect for where they came from and what they have done for you.
