About me

Have you ever felt that it is difficult being you and those around seem unable to understand how you feel? Whether you have a partner, family or friends, that is often not enough to give you the support that you need. Counselling can help you to explore being you, with someone who is impartial, non-judgemental and willing to accept you for who you are.

I believe that by considering counselling as a means of help and support at this time, you will be taking positive steps to live a more fulfilled life. On occasions we need someone to listen and support us when managing difficult issues affecting our lives. I can provide that support in a safe environment, should you wish to find out more about my counselling service.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a qualified integrative Relational Psychotherapeutic/Counsellor based in Bookham Surrey. I also have a practice in New Malden Surrey.

I have worked with a number of clients with a range of issues including relationship difficulties, work related problems, abuse, self-harm, depression, poor self-esteem, eating disorders and addictions.

This list is not exhaustive; please contact me if you wish to discuss your particular issue and to see if we could work together.

I have experience of working with children and young people in a number of school settings.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

How I work

I use a number of different methods taken from various theoretical backgrounds; this enables me to provide a unique style of therapy for the individual client. I believe the therapeutic relationship is key in helping clients achieve change and live a more fulfilling life.

I also work creatively, using methods that help clients communicate when they are finding words too difficult. I have found this helpful when working with family issues both with adults and younger clients.

Where I work

My private counselling/psychotherapy practice is based in Bookham, Surrey KT23 and is conveniently situated for clients travelling from the surrounding areas of Cobham KT11, Effingham, East Horsley Fetcham KT24, and Guilford.

I also provide counselling/psychotherapy in New Malden KT3; the practice is convenient for clients travelling from Kingston, Surbiton, Raynes Park SW20 and the surrounding areas. The New Malden Practice is situated in a central position on a number of bus routes and is a 5-minute walk from New Malden BR Station.

Key details

Wheelchair user access
Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.

At my Bookham Practice, it is possible to gain access for a wheelchair user. In New Malden I would have to make enquiries with the landlord to see if I could user a ground floor room.
