About me

For me, counselling begins with a simple belief: people rarely need someone to tell them who they are. More often, they need someone willing to understand who they already are.

Many people come to counselling believing they need to have the right words or know exactly what's wrong before they can begin. In my experience, that's rarely the case. It's okay to feel uncertain. It's okay not to know what to say. Together, we'll begin wherever feels right for you.

I see counselling as a collaborative relationship rather than a process of advice-giving. My role is to offer a warm, confidential and accepting space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences without fear of judgement or pressure to be anything other than yourself. Rather than making assumptions or offering quick solutions, I'm interested in understanding what your experiences mean to you.

My practice is grounded in the person-centred approach developed by Carl Rogers. The core conditions of empathy, congruence and unconditional positive regard continue to shape every aspect of my work. I believe that when we feel genuinely heard, accepted and understood, we often begin to understand ourselves more deeply and discover our own capacity for growth.

Before retraining as a counsellor, I spent more than twenty years working in leadership, transport management and professional training. Those experiences taught me the importance of listening, remaining calm under pressure and building trusting relationships with people from many different backgrounds. Today, they complement my counselling practice rather than define it.

I'm a Humanistic Counsellor and Registered Member of the BACP, offering counselling online across the UK and in person in the New Forest, Southampton and surrounding areas.

I work with people who are experiencing anxiety, stress, low self-esteem, grief, relationship difficulties, life transitions, loss, depression and the many challenges that life can unexpectedly bring.

I don't believe every counsellor is the right fit for every client, and I know that choosing a counsellor can feel daunting. My hope is simple: that through our work together you'll feel genuinely heard, understood and supported. If, together, we can make sense of your experiences and help you move towards the life you want, then I believe we've created something worthwhile.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

I offer initial consultation sessions lasting 30 minutes, giving you the opportunity to ask questions, talk about what has brought you to counselling, and get a sense of how I work. This first meeting is especially helpful if you are new to counselling or feeling nervous about starting. There is no pressure to share anything you are not ready to talk about, and no obligation to continue beyond this session.

As a person-centred counsellor, I work in a way that is led by you. I offer a warm, empathic, and non-judgemental therapeutic relationship where you can explore your thoughts and feelings at your own pace. I believe you are the expert in your own life, and my role is to listen carefully and support your self-understanding rather than give advice or tell you what to do.

All sessions are treated as confidential and are delivered within clear, professional boundaries, in line with the BACP Ethical Framework. These boundaries help create a safe, respectful, and trusting space in which meaningful therapeutic work can take place.
