About me

I support people facing depression, anxiety, and life’s challenges to build confidence, find connection and create a more fulfilling life.

I love working with people from different backgrounds and identities, including those who have ADHD or are autistic.

My approach is warm, affirming, and tailored to each person’s unique needs, helping them navigate challenges in a way that feels right for them. Whether someone is struggling with self-doubt, loneliness, or big life transitions, I provide a space to explore, grow, and move forward with greater clarity and confidence.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a Level 5 Diploma in Person-Centred Counselling from Cornwall College, as well as an undergraduate degree in Development Economics and a Masters in Public Policy. As well as working in private practice I volunteer for a low cost counselling service called Listening Post.

I started my professional life as a government economist, working in social and environmental policy. I also have worked as a support worker, mostly with people who are neurodivergent. I have a lot of experience working with community groups.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

Generally, I will start by checking in to see how you are doing. Sometimes people turn up ready to get right into it, sometimes people want to name some of the stressful things that are going on in their lives. I might summarise some of what we talked about in the last session. I then usually ask what you would like to talk about in that session, or where you would like to begin.

Every six sessions I have a mini-review with clients, which gives a space to check in with how you are feeling about things, whether there is anything you would like to change about the way we work, and whether you feel like you want to work towards a conclusion. It’s also a place for you to offer feedback if you feel comfortable doing so and reflect on how our relationship might be growing.

My in person sessions take place at Shirehampton Public Hall, which has good transport links. There is on street parking. There is a small step up into the therapy room, but the room is on the ground floor.
