Bernadette Owen MBACP (Accred) Counselling Psychotherapy Hypnotherapy
About me
Hello, and thank you for visiting my Counselling Directory profile. Making the decision to come to therapy can feel daunting and confusing, and finding the right therapist is important in taking the first step to improving your emotional well being.
Life can sometimes leave us with difficult situations and issues, and sometimes finding solutions can feel an impossible task.
If you find yourself in emotional or psychological difficulty, whether relating to present or past problems, and would like to talk, then you are very welcome to contact me for an informal chat or to book and initial consultation, at no cost, where we can explore together the most appropriate way forward for you.
With 10 years of experience in the counselling field, my area of expertise is in working with the trauma and associated impact of childhood sexual abuse. I work from a person centred perspective with male and female clients aged 18 and above, and my work is mainly client led. My focus is on developing and maintaining a therapeutic relationship within which clients are empowered to explore their issues, at their own pace, in a safe, non-judgemental and empathic environment.
In addition to counselling, I offer hypnotherapy for the alleviation of a range of issues, including irrational fears, mistaken beliefs and the impact of trauma. Hypnotherapy is also useful and can be applied to bring about relaxation during pregnancy.
As a practitioner in counselling and hypnotherapy, my aim is always to work in accordance with client needs, providing a flexible, professional and ethical service.
Training, qualifications & experience

Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.
