About me
“Most men lead lives of quiet desperation and die with their song still inside them”
Men don’t suffer more psychological disorders than women overall, however, the way men suffer them can be more destructive and problematic as they tend to externalise their suffering in the form of violence, substance abuse, anger, aggression, etc. Moreover, men’s psychological suffering is further compounded by men often hiding their issues and being reluctant to report symptoms. My mission is to work with men to help them become the type of man they want to be and so to lead their 'best lives'.
What do I offer?
I offer effective online and face-to-face therapy for men who want to change, who are struggling, or who want to access more of their potential. If this is you, I believe I can help because I employ the 'gold standard' of talking therapies (CBT), I have fifty years of life experience of being a man in UK society, and I operate under the BACP code of ethics.
Will it help?
Whilst a successful outcome to therapy isn’t certain, I believe there is good reason to be hopeful that it will work for you. This hopefulness is based on three reasons. Firstly, a strong body of research supports the efficacy of CBT. Secondly, based on this research the NHS is convinced of the efficacy and has adopted a CBT-based approach to make psychological services more widely available. Thirdly, my experience of working successfully with a range of clients and their issues.
How will it help?
There are two main ways that I help men. Firstly by ensuring that a sufficient range of activities and structures (e.g. work, social, selfcare, etc) exist in your week to maintain optimal psychological wellbeing. Secondly by removing psychological blocks which are stopping you moving forward to be the man you want to be.
What to expect in the initial assessment?
The purpose of the initial assessment is fourfold. Firstly, to gather data and information about you including your therapy goals. Secondly, to mutually assess whether we can work together (have I got capacity and capability to deal with what you need and do you feel like you can trust and collaborate with me). Thirdly, to tell you a bit about the approach I use. And lastly to plan the next steps and formulate actions.

Member organisations

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
