About us

Anxious Minds is a multi-award-winning mental health charity that is devoted to improving the lives of a multitude of individuals suffering from mental health.

Our overall aim is for people in the North East who are affected by mental health, addiction, and abuse to receive the support that they need to live a fulfilled life through recovery, support, and rediscovery.

We believe that everyone deserves efficient mental health support and the chance to recover from trauma, a safe environment to live in, a rewarding job, and a life free from addiction and abuse.

Our aim is to make mental health and addiction support services to be accessible for all as quickly as possible to prevent long-term issues. We strongly believe that with proper effective support, anyone will be able to change their life for the better.

Essentially, when an individual is not feeling good and feels that they are experiencing a mental health problem, we step in to support them. Providing supportive and reliable information can help to change a person’s life for the better.

We aim to empower individuals who are suffering from mental illness to understand their condition and to be aware of the choices that are available to them.

We have multiple services which work towards fulfilling this aim such as:

·         Counselling Services

·         Women-Only Centres

·         Veteran Recovery College

·         Drop-in Centres

·         Outdoor Therapy Activities.

For each of these services, we provide specialised support based on the needs of each individual. Our services are first-class: we believe that our services bring about real change and promote a positive mental health model.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
