About me
Taking the first step towards therapy can feel daunting. As an experienced therapist with over 20 years experience, my aim in our first few sessions is to help you feel comfortable, understood and supported while we work together to work through what you are dealing with. Overall the aim is to help develop coping strategies to help manage any symptoms and then work on overcoming any underlying factors.
In the first session I aim to
- Give the opportunity to talk things through in a supportive environment
- From that discussion to develop a shared understanding of what you are dealing with and identify any underlying factors that may be preventing recovery
- Get an idea of any expectations/hopes that you have for treatment
- Outline a treatment plan based on what you are dealing with combined with your expectations/hopes/ treatment goals.
Some of the ways that i work with clients to help them to feel better
-Use EMDR processing to help work through difficult or traumatic experiences so they have less impact on your present life, allowing you to move forward with greater confidence and hope.
-Reviewing someones expectations on themselves to help them to reduce pressure and feelings of being overwhelmed, to help feel calmer and relaxed.
-Help someone to become more assertive and feel less guilty for focussing more on themselves, seeing this as not selfish but self-respect.
-Become less self-critical of themselves and help them to become more fairer and supportive to themselves
-Reduce excessive worry and improve your ability to focus on the things that matter.
-Improve your mood, increase resilience and feel more hopeful about the future.
If you would like to find out more or discuss whether therapy is right for you, please feel free to get in touch to arrange a free 15-minute telephone consultation. This gives us the opportunity to talk about your situation, answer any questions you may have, and discuss what you are hoping to gain from therapy.
Many clients tell me they leave sessions feeling understood, more hopeful and with practical strategies they can start using immediately. To see their reviews please see https://share.google/15iYfepqnWnThdhhT
