About me
I’m Dr Andrew Bamber, a Clinical Psychologist with over 15 years of specialist experience working with children, young people, and families. I specialise in providing compassionate, evidence‑based psychological assessment and support for children who experience complex emotional, behavioural, or developmental needs, including Autism, ADHD, learning disabilities, physical disabilities, and behaviours of concern.
My approach is playful, child‑centred, and strengths‑based. I work collaboratively with young people, their families, and the wider network around them - such as schools, social care, or health professionals - to develop a shared understanding of what is contributing to distress or challenging behaviour. From this shared formulation, I help families build clear, practical plans that improve quality of life, strengthen relationships, and support long‑term emotional wellbeing.
I also offer support for a wide range of presenting needs such as behaviours of concern, family relationship difficulties, anxiety, low mood, anger, sleep challenges, avoidant and restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID), and toileting or feeding or sleep difficulties linked to additional needs.
Alongside direct therapeutic work, I provide consultation, training, and reflective practice to schools, care providers, and organisations across the UK.
Training, qualifications & experience
I qualified as a Clinical Psychologist in 2012 after completing the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the University of Hertfordshire. Since then, I have worked in a range of highly specialist NHS roles in Hertfordshire, Bristol, and Gwent, including senior leadership positions in Child and Adolescent Learning Disability and CAMHS services. I am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
My clinical experience includes specialist assessment, formulation, and intervention for children with neurodevelopmental differences, mental health needs, complex behaviours of concern, and overlapping health, education, and care needs.
I have also delivered complex assessments for adoptive families through local authority commissioning and provided supervision to senior mental health practitioners at the University of Bristol.
I draw on a range of therapeutic approaches including Positive Behaviour Support, Systemic Family Therapy, Attachment‑informed models, Trauma‑informed approaches, and Narrative Therapy.
Additional specialist training includes:
- Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) – Diploma in Practice Leadership (BILD, Level 5)
- Autism assessments – ADOS‑2 and ADI‑R

school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
The HCPC are an independent, UK-wide health regulator. They set standards of professional training, performance and conduct for 16 professions.
They keep a register of health professionals who meet their standards, and they take action if registered health professionals fall below those standards. They were created by a piece of legislation called the Health Professions Order 2001.
Registration means that a health professional meets national standards for their professional training, performance and conduct.

Further information
I am committed to creating a safe, warm and supportive environment where children and families feel understood, empowered, and actively involved in the process of intervention. My work is always guided by compassion, curiosity, and collaboration.
I recognise that every child and family is unique, so I tailor my support to the specific needs, strengths, and goals of the young person and the systems around them. My role often includes helping families and professionals make sense of complex situations and supporting them to navigate pathways through services, education, and care.
If you are a parent, carer, or professional seeking support for a child with complex emotional or behavioural needs, I would be happy to discuss how we can work together.
