About me
Hello, I’m Andrea.
Perhaps you’ve reached a point where things feel difficult or overwhelming, and you’re not quite sure how to move forward. Maybe you’ve been managing for a long time, but are finding that anxiety, low mood, relationship difficulties or a significant life change are beginning to affect you. Or perhaps you simply feel that you need some time and space to understand what you’re feeling.
Whatever has brought you to consider counselling, I offer a warm, welcoming and confidential space where you can talk openly and honestly, without fear of judgement.
I am a qualified psychotherapeutic counsellor and a member of the BACP, with a Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling from the Northern Guild in Newcastle.
My approach is primarily person-centred, influenced by the work of Carl Rogers. I believe that feeling genuinely heard, accepted and understood can be incredibly powerful. I aim to build a trusting therapeutic relationship based on empathy, acceptance and genuineness, where you can explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences at your own pace.
I don’t believe there is a “one size fits all” approach to counselling. While the relationship between us is at the heart of my work, I can also introduce appropriate techniques and interventions where these may be helpful. These would always be discussed with you and used collaboratively.
I work with adults experiencing anxiety, depression, bereavement, trauma, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem and life changes.
Taking the first step towards counselling can feel daunting. You may not even know exactly what you need help with yet — and that’s okay. You don’t need to have everything worked out before you come.
My aim is to offer you a safe space to pause, reflect and be heard, helping you to make sense of what you’re experiencing and, in time, find your own way forward.
I offer face-to-face counselling in Hexham, as well as online and telephone sessions.
Training, qualifications & experience
I hold a Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling from the Northern Guild in Newcastle and I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
My counselling experience includes supporting adults experiencing anxiety, depression, bereavement, trauma, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem and significant life changes. I have particular experience supporting people who have experienced domestic abuse and the emotional impact that this can have on wellbeing, relationships and self-esteem.
My approach is primarily person-centred, drawing on the work of Carl Rogers and the core conditions of empathy, acceptance and genuineness. I work collaboratively with clients, and where appropriate can incorporate helpful techniques and interventions alongside the person-centred relationship.
I am committed to continuing my professional development and expanding my knowledge and skills so that I can offer the best possible support to my clients.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
