Andrea Levene - Counsellor, Psychotherapist and Registered Nurse
Hello and a warm welcome to you. How are you feeling today?
Are you here because you are currently experiencing some of the challenges and emotional distress that the current world health crisis (pandemic covid -19) has triggered.
Have you been thinking about talking to someone, regarding an issue which has been holding you back from enjoying your life?
Some of the most common issues which people often seek help to talk about are stress, depression, grief and loss, loneliness, relationship and personal dilemmas. Many of these issues can create isolation, guilt, fear, shame, confusion and overwhelming anxiety.
Therefore, if any of these or another issue is the reason that you find yourself on this page, please be reassured that you are not alone. Research has shown that anxiety is very common, its a normal response to your feelings. However, whenever it gets overwhelming and interferes with your life, it can be seen as an issue, requiring treatment.
For many people thinking about talking therapy as a means to resolve their issues, can trigger a worry, particularly for those of you who have never experienced therapy before. For this reason, you will always be at the forefront of the work I do. You will never be told what to do, or given advice. Counselling therapy is a collaboration between your therapist and you. Its a professional relationship, where you are given the opportunity to talk in confidence, about your issues.
Using effective and compassionate listening skills, my role is to support you through the process of achieving your desired goal, towards acceptance and change.
Having trained and qualified first and a registered nurse and then a psychotherapeutic counsellor, experienced in working both in health care and private practice, over thirty years, supporting a diverse population, I feel quite privileged to be able to be in this position of the caring profession.
M y training in therapy is called ` Integrative`, this means that I can tap into the different styles and techniques, known to be effective in helping people. However, this would be based on our mutual collaboration and your treatment plan. It is also a way of being flexible to fit in with what you wish to open up and talk about.
One of the reason why I offer a 30 minute free initial consultation, is to give you the opportunity to talk to me and to find out as much as possible about the work I do. Likewise, it is for me to ensure that I can support you with your concern.
It is also a way of seeing whether we could develop a mutual way of working. Counselling is quite diverse, because there are so many different approaches, the main thing however, is that it is based on your own personal needs.
Your privacy is my central consideration, I adhere to the NCS, code of ethics in practice. My work is governed by this code, because, it enables me to have regular supervision, and to keep up to date with knowledge and skills,. This is to ensure that I am a safe practitioner.
