About me

Maybe you feel something isn't right in your life. You're looking for something to change but are not sure exactly what that would look like.

I offer Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, where we explore our conscious and unconscious wishes, fears and motivations. We do this through a special kind of listening and talking as we explore you day to day struggles, your life story, and also your place in society. Whatever brings you to begin psychotherapy, the aim is to discover yourself, giving you greater freedom to enjoy love, play, work and the challenges of life.

I see this as a collaborative process between myself and the clients and I will listen to whatever you need to talk about without judgment.

Some of the particular issues I have worked with have been:

Anxiety

Depression

Anger

Lack of fulfilment/feeling lost in life

Psychologically derived sleep issues

Difficulty with relationships or intimacy

Conflicts with friends and social circles

Grief

Sexuality and gender identity issues

Trauma

An important part of a successful therapy is that you can imagine working well with the therapist, which is why I can offer new clients a short phone call before arranging any sessions. This is a quick chance for you to ask any questions, to get a feel for me and my way of working, and for me to introduce myself.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and my qualifications are:

  • MSc in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy and Counselling, UCL Birkbeck
  • BA English Literature, Aberystwyth University

Experience

Along with private practice I also provide psychotherapy at a specialist NHS psychodynamic service.

In my professional life I have worked at a low cost community therapy provider and additionally at a LGBT+ charity that provided specialist support to people struggling with addiction issues. I have also worked extensively with people under NHS mental health services, along with carers and family members supporting people under community mental health services.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
