About me
Hi! I’m Abi, a counsellor based in Portsmouth and Southampton.
My style is integrative, which means I pull from a range of therapeutic models—like person-centred, psychodynamic, CBT, and existential—to suit you, not the other way around. But more importantly, I work in a way that’s honest, collaborative, and gently (or not-so-gently) challenging. If you’re looking for someone who just nods and says, “Hmm, how does that make you feel?” for 50 minutes straight, I may not be your person.
I’ll listen. I’ll ask questions that make you think. I’ll call you out when you're avoiding something (with kindness, and probably a raised eyebrow). I believe therapy should be a place where you feel safe—but not stuck. If humour helps us cut through the heaviness, we’ll use it. If silence helps, we’ll sit in it. This is your space, and I’m here to walk through it with you—no fluff, no judgment, no pretending.
Areas I work with include:
Anxiety, burnout & overwhelm (including the high-functioning kind)
Depression, stuckness & emotional numbness
Self-worth, confidence & that nagging inner critic
Eating Disorders (this is my special interest) including Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia and Binge Eating
Body Dysmorphia
Relationship issues – romantic, platonic, family or... complicated
Trauma, complex trauma & how it shows up in everyday life
Life transitions, identity shifts & existential dread (yep, it’s a thing)
As well as this, I work with teenagers and young adults (usually 13 and up) who are struggling, stuck, overwhelmed, or just plain tired of feeling misunderstood. Whether it’s anxiety, low mood, self-esteem issues, or just a general sense that life is a bit too much—I offer a space where young people can speak freely, be themselves, and not be met with blank stares or lectures.
Like with adults, I'm direct, honest, and I don’t talk down to teens (they can smell that a mile off). I aim to create a space that feels safe, but also real. I won't pretend to be cool, but I will respect your perspective, challenge you when needed, and work with you to make sense of what’s going on.
We might talk, we might use creative methods, we might laugh—every session is tailored to the person in front of me, not just their “presenting issue.”
