About me

Effective Counselling in Suffolk ; Experienced, No Nonsense, down to Earth help with your problems. I deliver Effective, Solution Focused Therapy, we will identify the REAL problems in the here and now, YOUR goals and how to achieve them ASAP, I can help with Anxiety, Stress, Relationship issues, Anger, Addictions, Depression and PTSD.

No Psychobabble, no long/painful voyages of self discovery required and I do my best to help you quickly. Counselling and Hypnotherapy can help with all kinds of problems.

There are hundreds of different counselling models in use today, this can be confusing, especially to people seeking help, many are full of weird jargon and strange concepts, but I keep it down to earth by applying clear thinking and proven techniques, I waste NO time in identifying your problems / your unmet needs and examining possible solutions.

My approach is proactive, I do not just listen endlessly to problems, or delve into childhood for people/events to blame; we deal with the here and now and together, do our best to get your life back on track ASAP.
I enjoy my work and keep up with cutting edge research, developments and methods.

Solution Focussed Therapy is effective because it draws on both findings from Psychology and neurobiology about what people need to function well. We all have core emotional needs, genetically evolved by nature in all of us, which must be met in balance for us to be functional and feel good, as individuals or in our relationships.

When these needs (not wants) are not met in a healthy balanced way, people suffer distress and emotional difficulties; often becoming stressed, angry or substance dependent as a result.

SFT Helps our clients activate their own natural resources in new or more helpful ways to meet these needs, essential for a healthy, balanced, functional life.

I do not buy into the labels/drugs solution, the only label that matters to me is your name; we are all individuals and labels often describe some symptoms, which change of course and can be both disempowering and frightening to people who are simply suffering from stress and worry due to unmet needs.

I believe people can recover from their setbacks, however serious they may be, and live a rewarding and enjoyable life again. Medication is not the answer long term, it does not solve your problems and I have seen my Therapy methods work even with the most serious cases.

I have many years experience working with couples, addictions, depression, anger, anxiety, panic attacks, relationship or sexual issues; PTSD and other common reactions to setbacks in life, they do not have to be permanent, or hold you back any longer than they already have. Change is easier than you think...

Training, qualifications & experience

I have UOS Honours Degree in Counselling, and also trained for 8 years in Solution Focussed Therapy. I am fully qualified and have dozens of certificates; I trained in Counselling, Hypnotherapy and Behaviour Therapy, but my primary and most useful training is in SOLUTION FOCUSED THERAPY under a Person Centred Umbrella. I am currently doing a Masters Degree in CBT.

I qualified as a Counselling Practitioner, completing parts 1, 2, 3, and the advanced POST GRAD DIPLOMA in Psychotherapy.

(I have also completed years of Hypnotherapy training and we can use this approach where it's needed).

I have office space, but we can arrange home visits to suit your schedule, if you are unable to travel to me.

Member organisations

BACP

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.

Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.

All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
