About me

I believe everyone has the basic right to enjoy life to the full, in our relationships, leisure time and work life. We all experience set-backs but our thoughts, feelings and behaviour determine how we cope and what level of fulfillment we experience from life. I am committed to helping my clients significantly improve their quality of life.

I help my clients to learn new skills, awareness, beliefs and strategies that not only get them through their current difficulty but also equip them to deal with issues in 'future days.' Put simply I believe a professional should show someone how to use a tool for themselves rather than do the work for them.

I have 25 years experience as a Psychotherapist, Supervisor and trainer, please see - www.futuredays.org.uk.

I deal with issues such as:-
Stress/Anxiety, Anger, Depression, PTSD, Phobias, Trauma, Personality Disorders,
Eating Disorders, Bereavement, Communication Skills, Career Development,
Couples Counselling / Relationship Issues, Family Issues, plus many more.

Who Am I?

I am a relaxed and friendly character, although I can be enthusiastic and assertive when circumstance require. My FREE initial consultation gives you the chance to talk to me, completely free of obligation.

I am an experienced therapist, supervisor, trainer, published author and mental health professional with extensive experience working nationally and locally here in Cornwall, where I was born.

It takes a lot of courage to ask for help and the decision to seek psychotherapy can be a difficult one. I treat all my clients with respect and kindness.

Training, qualifications & experience

I started Future Days in 1999. I first saw clients for CRUSE, offering bereavement counselling from a person centred perspective. I then started to work with private clients while I was completing my 4 years post graduate training in Transactional Analysis (TA), Psychotherapy, which led to my Advanced Diploma and Accreditation with the ITA (Now UKATA) as a TA Practitioner.

In 2004 I reached 450 client hours and shortly after gained accreditation with BACP as a Psychotherapist. I have now accrued several thousand client contact hours, as a therapist and supervisor. Since then I have trained, studied and read extensively many different therapeutic approaches. I continue to study and expand my knowledge and utilise regular supervision, above and beyond the BACP guidelines.

In 2009 I trained as an EMDR Psychotherapist and have successfully integrated this into my therapy practice. Please see my EMDR page. I am also committed to the wider field of mental health. I am a director and trustee of the national charity, MHHP (Mental Health Helplines Partnership), where I work to improve access, quality and governance of mental health helplines across the country.

I am an Executive Director of Re-Gain (Cornwall) C.I.C. - Cornwall's first mental health specific social enterprise. We currently run three projects, Nightlink, Sanctuary and NEST. - see links.

In 2008 I co-wrote and edited "The Little Book of the Mind" see - Amazon - "The Little Book of the Mind."

In 2018 I achieved Senior Accreditation with the BACP and a diploma in Clinical Supervision of Counselling and Psychotherapy.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
