I am a qualified and experienced Counselling/Clinical Supervisor and work with both qualified therapists and trainees/students. My supervision approach is similar to my therapeutic approach; I believe that the relationship between my supervisees and I must lie at the heart of our work together.
Effective supervision can only take place if a supervisee feels that they will be empathically heard, not be judged, be validated, supported and reassured, and be respected. Supervisees must feel that they can bring to supervision anything that is of concern to them; together we can then look for the learning and decide on ways forward in an adult to adult manner. I encourage my supervisees to build on their internal supervisor by inviting them them to reflect on their practice in more depth and consider what they may have done differently, etc.
My role as a supervisor is to ensure that my supervisee is working ethically, within good practice boundaries and to safeguard both their clients and them.
