Supervisor Anna Alward MA, UKCP Registered Psychotherapist, MBACP (Accredited)
I enjoy working as a supervisor and work with trainees and newly qualified counsellors as well as experienced psychotherapists. I aim to work creatively and will listen carefully to all you bring. My main training is as a psychodynamic counsellor and an integrative psychotherapist and I also have experience of working as a creative arts therapist, of working with children, and in using hypnotherapy and CBT.
I also offer sessions of Reflective Practice for health professionals. Over the past few years I have worked with social workers, nurses, dentists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, massage therapists and paramedics. Reflective practice can be helpful for anyone who works in a helping capacity with others. It is a way of giving space and time to offload and reflect on work and personal concerns.
I have obtained a certificate and a diploma in supervision and am a BACP accredited and UKCP registered psychotherapist with wide experience of working in the NHS and in private practice. I have also worked for organisations which provide time limited and solution focused therapy. In my own practice, I see a wide variety of clients. I enjoy working trans-culturally.
I have experience of working in a psychiatric unit and as a psychotherapist with people diagnosed with borderline personality disorder.
Other specialist areas include bereavement, couple and family relationships, abuse, anxiety and trauma.
The way I work as a supervisor
I would say that I work carefully and intuitively. My training as a supervisor has been with The Society for Analytical Psychology, and I am interested in Jungian ways of working. Apart from this, I draw upon the past 20 years of experience as a therapist, and my own experience as a supervisee. In my dissertation, I explored traumatic countertransference and how therapists need to take care of themselves in their work.
Please note that I now offer Supervision sessions on Skype as well as in face to face sessions at the practice in Ramsgate.
Fees for supervision
My usual fee for supervision is £70.00 per hour. Concessionary fees can be negotiated if needed, for example if you are a trainee or just starting your private practice. Please send me an email outlining your requirements.
Most of the supervisees I work with attend fortnightly or monthly, but some attend weekly. Sessions can be arranged for one and a half hours if preferred.
I often provide external supervision for trainees. This can be arranged for individuals or in groups.
Over the years I have worked as an external supervisor for many different organisations, including the NHS, Interpsyche, Greenwich Community College and Bexley Youth Engagement Service.
I am fully registered as a clinical supervisor with the UK Council for Psychotherapy.
I welcome enquiries and would be happy to talk further - please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. We could then arrange a telephone call at a mutually convenient time.
