Supervision details

I have a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Supervision (Level 7) from Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute (SPTI). As a supervisor, I offer supervision to counsellors, psychotherapists and others in the helping professions including nurses and coaches. I work in the private sector and the NHS. I also work as an Integrative Counsellor (BA (Hons) Counselling) and have worked with a variety of clients presenting problems. However, recently I have specialised in bereavement and loss therapy. I am an Accredited member of the BACP.

Our first session and beyond

For effective supervision, the supervisory relationship is key. To enable this, I offer a safe, non-judgmental space in which you can process your thoughts and explore yourself and your practice.

Initially, I offer a 30-minute free session for us to meet each other, ask any questions and determine whether we feel we can work together. If we believe we are a good match I will go through our supervision contract. I may ask you to complete Kolb’s learning style questionnaire so that I can adapt the sessions to match your style.

I tailor the sessions to your practice but aim for a holistic approach. I use the Seven-eyed model (Hawkins and Shohet), Bands of supervision (Gilbert and Clarkson) and the TGROW framework (Driscoll) as a foundation of our supervision.

I begin the session by checking in with you, as Yalom states as a therapist we are the important tool in our work. I then look what you would like to focus on. The session will be collaborative and will include elements of guiding, gentle challenging and exploring unconscious processes.

At the end of the session, we will assess if your aims of the session have been met and what you can take away from the session.

What I can help with

In supervision there are a variety of areas I can explore with you which include

·       your growth and development

·       safe ethical practice

·       diversity

·       any training you may need or are interested in

·       your practice

·       self-awareness as a practitioner

·       unconscious processes

·       skills and interventions

·       possible other areas which we agree.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
