  • >Supervisor Dr Claire Appleton Chartered Clinical Psychologist

I am an experienced supervisor having supervised clinical psychology trainees, qualified psychologists, trainees in psychiatry and counsellors.

I have specialist expertise in psychodynamic psychotherapy (I have completed the North East Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy training in psychodynamic psychotherapy) which is accredited by the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC).  I have also worked in a senior role within a specialist psychotherapy service within the NHS.  I am therefore able to provide supervision to those practitioners who interested in learning more about a psychodynamic model.

I also have over 15 years of experience within the NHS of working within older adult services and have considerable expertise in this area.  I supervised many trainee clinical psychologists in this time.  Working with older adults brings with it a need for adaptation in the therapeutic approaches and my skill set reflects this.  I co edited a national journal for psychologists working with older people.

I am an accredited Balint Group facilitator.  Balint groups are reflective practice groups used by many GPs and psychiatry trainees and other healthcare professionals.  If you would like more information about the benefits of Balint groups please get in touch, they can be very helpful in providing a space to reflect on the complexities of working in healthcare.
