Supervisor Michael Friedrich, Psychoanalytic & Jungian Therapist & Chartered Psychologist
I provide Psychoanalytic, Jungian and Psychodynamic supervision for counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists. Currently, due to Covid19 I'm not working face to face. I'm using Skype, Facetime, Zoom or phone for therapists working anywhere in the world. I've been using Skype & phone for providing supervision & therapy since 2005 and so I'm confident in using them.
The theoretical model I use is psychoanalytic and psychodynamic and my preferred way of working is similar to that described in Patrick Casement's book, " On Learning from the Patient" - in other words, a modern British Object Relations approach, favouring the work of Winnicott and Bion. However, because I have worked extensively in the NHS, I am pragmatic in my approach. I think that the central task of the supervisor is to provide a facilitative environment to assist the therapist in following the content of the client's material, both what is on the surface and what the underlying meanings might be. I also place a strong emphasis on keeping the therapist and patient safe. This means helping the therapist to maintain a manageable caseload and also helping them with risk assessment.
I completed my training as a psychodynamic counsellor in 1989 at the Lincoln Institute, I trained as a Chartered Counselling Psychologist between 1992 & 1996 at City University and I trained as a Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist between 1995 & 1999 at The Guild of Psychotherapists - a pluralistic training teaching both psychoanalytic & Jungian approaches. I trained with the BAP as a supervisor in 2001 and with the NHS as a supervisor in 2006.
I've had a private psychotherapy & counselling practice for over thirty years. I worked as a Chartered Psychologist & Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist in the NHS for 15 years. In my NHS work I was the Clinical Coordinator for psychotherapists & counsellors working with ethnic minority groups in East London, later, I was the Clinical Lead of a Psychotherapy & Group Therapy Service and subsequently the Clinical Lead for all the CMHT Psychologists working in a large urban area.. I have a long career in teaching & training and have been a visiting professor, teaching psychoanalytic theory in Masaryk University in the Czech Republic since 2009.
I am a Chartered Member of the British Psychology Society and a member of the BACP, the UKCP and of The Guild of Psychotherapists
Please feel free to call me to have a free preliminary discussion to explore whether it might be a good enough fit for us to work together.
I am open to working with counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists who haven't had a formal psychodynamic or psychoanalytic training.
Supervision costs £55 for a 50 minute session and I accept payment by cash, paypal, bank transfer and cheque.
