Jo Bissonnet M.A.Dip S.W, B.A.Hons,HCPC registered Art Psychotherapist
I am a HCPC registered Art Psychotherapist and qualified social worker. I have supervised counsellors, arts psychotherapists and play therapists for many years, and I have successfully completed a British Association of Art Therapists supervision training course. My private practice includes work with Adults young people and children.
I also supervise trainees on arts therapies and counselling training courses, and provide personal therapy for those undergoing training. I have run several supervision groups for organizations and groups of private practitioners.
I approach supervision in a collabarative way so that the supervisee feels safe to explore their thoughts and feelings fully with regard to clients. In this way the supervisee can develop their professional skills and knowledge. I have art materials and sand tray always available, and their use can help to make sense of client sessions. There is also an important teaching role within supervision in terms of different theories, techniques and relevant professional experiences of the supervisor.
At the heart of the supervision task is the safety of the client, and to make sure that as therapists 'we do no harm'. The aim would be to benefit both the counsellor/therapist and client in the work
